England in East TexasEngland in East Texas is a collaborative series of events organized by several cultural organizations located in the East Texas region. The program offerings will take place during the months of July through October, 2005 and will complement the major international exhibition The Devonshire Inheritance: Five Centuries of Collecting at Chatsworth being held at the Tyler Museum of Art (July 30–October 23). We invite you to come and enjoy the variety of offerings from the best of East Texas; and to return again and again for many other wonderful programs and events! During the months of September and October, tune in to KTPB 88.7 FM for special programs featuring English music, as well as interviews, special stories and features related to the exhibition The Devonshire Inheritance: Five Centuries of Collecting at Chatsworth. October Wednesday, October 12, 2:00 p.m. Tyler Museum of Art 'Chatsworth: The Paintings and the Decorative Arts' Fall Lecture Series: presented by Deborah Gage, Art Historian, Dealer and Lecturer; held at Wise Auditorium, TJC Campus. Thursday, October 13, 2:00 p.m. Tyler Museum of Art 'The History of the Gardens at Chatsworth: 1550–2005' Fall Lecture Series: presented by Simon Seligman, Chatsworth Promotions and Education Manager; held at Wise Auditorium, TJC Campus. Thursday, October 13, 10:00 a.m. Texas Rose Festival – Tyler Texas Rose Festival begins with this year's theme 'The Greatness of Britain'. Traditional ribbon cutting by the Rose Queen at the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden. Thursday, October 13, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Texas Rose Festival – Tyler Rose Show and Activities featuring Friends of the Rose – Variety Rose Display and Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs Annual Flower Show at the Rose Garden Center. Friday, October 14, 3:00–5:00 p.m. Texas Rose Festival – Tyler Queen's Tea with the 2005 Rose Queen and her Court, held at the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden. Friday, October 14 , 7:30 p.m. Texas Rose Festival – Tyler Queen's Coronation and Court Presentation of 'The Greatness of Britain', held at the Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Saturday, October 15, 9:00 a.m. Texas Rose Festival – Tyler 9:00 a.m. – Pre-parade activities 9:30 a.m. – Rose Parade will begin heading west from Glenwood Blvd. and Front St. and proceed to Rose Stadium. Saturday, October 15, 3:00–5:00 p.m. Tyler Museum of Art 'Counting My Chickens' Tea Party on the Museum grounds. Sunday, October 16, 1:00–4:00 p.m. Tyler Museum of Art Chatsworth Family Day on the Museum grounds. Sunday, October 16, 6:00–7:00 p.m. The Art Center, Stephen F. Austin State University – Nacogdoches 'Art Smart: Collecting Original Art – British Prints, 1700–2000' Art historian David Lewis will provide insights for those interested in collecting original prints. The event will be accompanied by a wine and cheese reception. Watch for special related events presented by: Opera Longview will present a program of English Opera songs at the TMA. Michelson Museum of Art - Marshall will host a lecture on English art by independent scholar Amy Carlile. Tyler Civic Ballet will present a special dance performance related to the Chatsworth exhibition. |
