Tyler Museum of Art Receives Prestigious Federal Grant

Tyler, TX—The Tyler Museum of Art recently was notified it will receive a 2005 Museum Assessment Program Grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The Museum Assessment Program is a cooperative program between the IMLS and the American Association of Museums designed to help museums assess their strengths and weaknesses and plot a course for future improvements.

“We are very pleased to receive this grant because it will help us realize new ways we can improve our services to the community,” said Sherry Dunn, TMA development officer. “This research will help us reach new audiences who will greatly benefit from what an art museum can offer.”

The TMA grant will focus on evaluating how the Museum collaborates with its community and audience. It is one of 160 grants the IMLS awarded to museums across the country. The IMLS is a federal grant-making agency dedicated to creating and sustaining a nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their communities.

“The Museum Assessment Program grants we make today will help museums strengthen professional practices and educational services that will benefit communities all across the country,” added IMLS Director Robert Martin, in the announcement awarding the grant to the TMA.
