Tenth Annual Event for Region VII Teachers
Tyler Museum of Art Hosts Art Educators Reception

Actress Geena Davis Headlines TMA Event Tyler, TX—Tyler Museum of Art volunteers announced Tuesday Academy Award-winning actress Geena Davis will be a special guest at the 2006 ‘Little Black Dress’ Fall Fête set for October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum. Ms. Davis will attend a VIP reception, the event and assist with the art auction, a key annual fundraiser for the TMA, according to Event Co-Chairs Amy Lively and Renée Faulconer. Specific artwork to be auctioned this year to benefit the Museum are tables designed and decorated by local artists and community leaders in support of this year’s auction theme, “The Table is Set.” The event is planned to honor long-time TMA supporter Amy Faulconer. In addition to the auction, guests will enjoy a buffet catered by Dakota’s Restaurant, music by Loco Joe, and a short speech by Ms. Davis. VIP invitations for guests who wish to meet Ms. Davis, as well as tickets to the event, are available by calling the Museum at 903-595-1001. Recognized in 1989 with an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Accidental Tourist, Geena Davis was again nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her performance as Thelma in Ridley Scott’s movie Thelma and Louise. She also has received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in A League of Their Own, and Speechless, a film she co-produced in which she portrayed a political speechwriter. Other notable films featuring Ms. Davis include Tootsie, The Fly, Beetlejuice, Earth Girls are Easy, Angie, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and Stuart Little. More recently she starred as the first female U.S. President in ABC’s Commander-in-Chief. An avid athlete and supporter of girls’ participation in sports, the actress also qualified to compete in the 2000 Olympic Trials for archery, rising to the rank of 13th in the nation in 2001.
