Tyler Museum of Art Announces "Little Black Dress" Plans

Tyler, TX—Tyler Museum of Art officials Friday announced plans for the sixth "Little Black Dress" event, set for October 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum at 1300 S. Mahon. Invitations to the reserved ticket event are available by calling 903-595-1001. The annual fall fundraiser symbolically kicks off the holiday party season for East Texans. In addition to fine food, drinks and music, "Little Black Dress" also features a live auction of original artwork donated by area artists and creative Museum supporters. Chelli Warren and Debra Bang are co-chairing this year's event.

"The 'Little Black Dress' theme started six years ago with a committee of Museum volunteers who wanted a timeless, classic and glamorous event that would be not only a fun fundraiser, but also memorable, and not to mention, easy to dress for!" said Nancy Lamar, TMA director of development. "This year's party promises to be all that and more."

In addition to the auction and food, guests will be entertained this year by the Dallas-based jazz/soul band "Fingerprints." The group, which routinely packs in crowds at clubs and music festivals throughout the Southwest, has been featured on BET's "Jazz Discovery" show, recorded several CDs, and garners frequent airplay on jazz stations across the country. JazzUSA.com has commented, "...Fingerprints is one of the best kept secrets of the South. The Smooth Jazz Mafia better watch out!"

"Little Black Dress" attendees also will be the first Tyler Museum of Art visitors to view a new exhibition opening the night of the event. Seven beautiful vintage famous designer dresses from the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas will be on display in an exhibition entitled Simply Black. Megan Goetz, assistant curator for UNT's School of Visual Arts Texas Fashion Collection, will curate the show at the TMA, in the Bell Gallery through November 10.

"Small Works from Great Minds" is the theme of this year's art auction. It will feature small but distinctive works of art created and/or donated by many talented people and organizations including Martha Bain, Ann Baum, Janis Braue, Bufe & Babin, Caldwell Zoo, Patrick Deen, Mary Lauren Faulkner, Su Holder, Robert Langham, Scott Lieberman, Larry Lott, Jim & Philana Pace, Cherie Paro with The Granite Girls, Harviann Perry, Cynthia Riter, Shelley Smith, Chris Stewart, Matthew Watson and Judith Guthrie, Carrie White, William Young and Gregory Zeorlin. The Museum's North Gallery also will be open during the Little Black Dress event for attendees to view the current popular TMA exhibition, Selected Works from the Laura and Dan Boeckman Collection of Mexican and Latin American Folk Art.
