The TMA Announces Seniors’ Day, November 16:
Seniors Invited for Tours and Free Lunch

Tyler, TX—
The Tyler Museum of Art is excited to announce an exclusive opportunity for local seniors. Those age 65 and older are invited to attend Seniors’ Day at the TMA, on Monday, November 16, beginning at 10 a.m. Visitors will enjoy docent-led tours of the current exhibitions, including 4 Salvaged Boxes: Sustainable Creative Design, and Light Footprints: New Museum Site Photography by Robert Langham. Participants will also enjoy a complimentary lunch; seating for the lunch is limited, and reservations are required. Admission to all current exhibits is free.

Tours are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. and will lead visitors through two exhibitions that were formed in the spirit of environmental stewardship and conservation. 4 Salvaged Boxes: Sustainable Creative Design and Light Footprints: New Museum Site Photography by Robert Langham are joined together to take a look at the “how” and “why” of green building and design. 4 Salvaged Boxes aims to demonstrate the sustainable design features of the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) which was designed by wHY Architecture, the firm TMA hired for its new building project. When the GRAM opened in 2007, it was the first new art museum in the U.S. to receive Gold certification by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System, which provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures.

Light Footprints: New Museum Site Photography by Robert Langham documents and elevates to art form the current state of the new museum site. Fine art photographer Robert Langham was commissioned by the Tyler Museum of Art to document the current natural state of the nearly undisturbed site of the future TMA, and the exhibition shows a sampling of the images he has captured over two years of shooting.

The joint exhibitions will be open to the public through February 21, 2010 in the Museum’s Bell Gallery. For more information and to reserve space, please call the Tyler Museum of Art at 903-595-1001. Information is also available through the TMA website, www.tylermuseum.org.

Support for these exhibitions is provided in part by Texas Commission on the Arts. Collectors' Circle sponsors are Marilyn & John Glass. Media sponsors are the Tyler Morning Telegraph/TylerPaper.com. The Tyler Museum of Art is supported by its members, the City of Tyler, and Tyler Junior College.
