November First Friday Tour Spotlights Eva Zeisel: The Shape of Life at TMA

TYLER, TX—The Tyler Museum of Art is offering a special time for its November First Friday Art Tour in conjunction with the new exhibition, Eva Zeisel: The Shape of Life.

This month’s tour is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7 in the Museum’s North Gallery, a change from the regular monthly First Friday time of 11 a.m. An influx of elementary school tours during the usual First Friday slots for October and November has prompted the temporary change, TMA Head of Education Katie Powell said, but the tour still will be a complete one-hour program.

The November tour, led by Ms. Powell, casts the spotlight on more than 70 years of groundbreaking ceramic design on display in Eva Zeisel: The Shape of Life, an exhibition that spans the broad and accomplished career of Zeisel, the legendary Eastern European artisan who continues to produce household and industrial designs as she approaches her 102nd birthday.

TMA’s First Friday Art Tours are open to the public, but reservations are requested and may be made by calling (903) 595-1001. The tour is free with an exhibition ticket, which costs $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. Exhibition admission is free for TMA members and children 12 and under.

Support for Eva Zeisel: The Shape of Life is provided by TMA Collectors’ Circle Members: The Byars Foundation, and Amy and Vernon Faulconer. Media sponsor is CBS 19. The exhibition continues through Dec. 9 in the TMA’s North Gallery.

The First Friday Art Tour will return to its regular time of 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, when the Museum presents its tour spotlighting The Elegant House: Paintings & Decorative Art from the Graham Williford Collection, on exhibit Nov. 16 through Feb. 8, 2009.

The Tyler Museum of Art, accredited by the American Association of Museums, is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave., adjacent to the Tyler Junior College campus off East Fifth Street. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Light lunch is available in the Museum Café from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and the TMA Gift Shop is open during exhibition hours. For more information, call (903) 595-1001 or visit www.tylermuseum.org.
