TMA Announces Plan for New 'destination: Art' Event

Tyler, TX—Invitations will mail soon for Tyler Museum of Art’s newest event, and those who like to travel, see new things, spend time with friends and enjoy art will want to make their reservations early. This year’s new fundraising event, called destination: Art, is scheduled for March 24 at 7 p.m. It will feature dinner and cocktails at a choice of four private Tyler locations, all with significant art collections. Attendees may choose to enjoy dinner and art at the home of Claudia and Otis Carroll, or Chelli and Don Warren, at the corporate offices of Vernon Faulconer, or in the Carmichael Gallery of the Tyler Museum of Art. In addition to enjoying fine dining, drinks and the varied collections at each of these locales, destination: Art guests can also participate in an exclusive live auction simulcast from the Museum. Three distinct art-related trips will be auctioned to the highest bidders that evening, along with an elegant cocktail party to be hosted by the TMA board at the Museum during an upcoming exhibition.

“The committee for this event was ready for something new, fun and different,” said Nancy Lamar, TMA’s director of development. “Our fall event, ‘The Little Black Dress,’ has become the area’s standard for elegant entertainment to kick off the holiday season. We think this new spring event, destination:Art, will become the standard for jump-starting the travel season.”

One of the trips to be auctioned, destination: England, includes private tours of two of Great Britain’s most noteworthy private estates containing immense collections of furniture, paintings and decorative arts collected for the past 500 years, along with lunch and a tour of one of London’s most exclusive art galleries. Another trip, destination: New York, will be an art lover’s paradise centered in the heart of Manhattan, with a private gallery tour, tickets to the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other special Big Apple accommodations. Destination: Dallas will provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for 12 friends to enjoy a very exclusive private tour of one of Dallas’ most architecturally significant homes along with the world-renowned art collection inside. Special events at the Dallas Museum of Art are also included in this Big D “destination.” For those who love art, but don’t want to travel far from home, destination: Tyler will be the trip to bid. The winner of this fun-filled excursion can treat 50 friends to a cocktail buffet at the Tyler Museum of Art in conjunction with one of the Museum’s major exhibitions.

Committee members organizing destination: Art include Cathy Shipp, Beth Whitney, Debbie Roosth, Susan Davis, Margo Adams, Debra Bang, Sharlotte Hyde and Linda Massengill. Tickets are limited by seating capacities at each venue, so reservations should be made as early as possible. Deadline for reservations is March 16. For tickets or more information call the Tyler Museum of Art at 903-595-1001. Pre-event bidding for the trips begins March 5 and may be joined at the TMA website. Final bids will be accepted during the live auction the night of the event, and bidders must be present at the event to participate that evening.
